Booze, food, fun. Can you think of a more winning combination? Luckily, Mr Tanaka's has made it their dining philosophy and we couldn't be more overjoyed.

It might just be the funkiest spot in town! Designed like a traditional Izakaya with added bistro seating around the bar area, Mr Tanaka's is a fun-filled, sensory experience. With a completely wooden interior mimicking a bamboo hut, Mr Tanaka's has created a textured and playful restaurant with Japanese decor every which way and innovative dining styles that include loungey sofas, bar stools and a wicked outdoor area that is more tropical than it is Auckland.

To complement its joyful, communal atmosphere, the menu is designed to bring people together with the delicious sharing plates that make Izakayas so treasured in Japan. Mix it up with some ginger chicken meatballs, some cheeky gyozas, Osaka balls and tuna tataki for an explosive feast that hits every tastebud. Add on some of their signature bacon-wrapped prawns, pork belly in nori jam or katsu chicken sticks for the ultimate convenient mouthful. A couple of maki rolls also wouldn't hurt.

If you don't fancy sharing, all their individual mains are served with warm sushi rice and some of Mr Tanaka's wafu slaw. Hint: don't even bother asking for the recipe... it's top secret. From chicken katsu burgers to sticky pork belly and teriyaki salmon, avoid the straying forks of your dining partners and scoff the delicious lot yourself. Then sit back, relax and watch the party unfold as Mr Takana's playful cocktails do their work...
